Eligibility :
  • Doctoral Degree: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree. Applicants from all disciplines and nationalities are encouraged to apply.

  • Academic Excellence: Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic qualifications and research potential in their respective fields. This includes a strong publication record or notable achievements in research.

  • Early Career Researchers: Applicants should generally have completed their doctoral degree within the last 12 years for experienced researchers, or within the last 4 years for postdoctoral researchers.

  • Host Institution in Germany: Applicants must secure a research position at a host institution in Germany. A confirmation letter from a German academic host is required as part of the application process.

  • Language Skills: Adequate knowledge of the English or German language, depending on the research project, is necessary for effective communication during the fellowship.

  • No Prior Extended Stay in Germany: Applicants who have spent significant time in Germany, specifically more than six months in the 18 months prior to application, may not be eligible.

  • Commitment to Research in Germany: The applicant must propose a research project to be conducted in Germany and demonstrate the project's relevance to their academic career and the host institution.

Additionally, you must provide:

  • Host’s Statement and confirmation of research facilities

  • Two Expert Reviews (submitted directly by the host and reviewers)

  • Prepare Application Documents: Draft a detailed research proposal and secure a confirmation letter from a German host institution.
    Prepare a CV highlighting academic achievements and research experience, along with a copy of your Ph.D. certificate.
    Arrange two academic references.

  • Apply Online: Access the Humboldt Foundation's application portal, complete the forms, and upload your documents.

  • Submit Application: Ensure all documents are complete and submit before the deadline. Applications are accepted year-round, and decisions are typically made within 4-6 months.

The Scholarship Benefits:

    • Postdocs: €2,700 per month

    • Experienced Researchers: €3,200 per month

  • Flexible Duration: Fellowships last from 6 to 24 months for postdocs and 6 to 18 months for experienced researchers, with the option to divide the time into up to three stays within three years.
